It is postseason time in the US right now, with the MLS Cup Playoffs wrapping up the first leg this week.
There is also plenty of action at the university level, with those conferences wrapping up their seasons and entering the playoffs as well.
With the stakes raised in the postseason, the action can get a little more gritty. We’ve certainly seen that in the MLS ranks.
The university games are no different, not even on the women’s side.
Below is a highlight from a conference semifinal match between Brigham Young University and New Mexico.
The wisdom of the BYU players to not openly retaliate and risk getting a red card that would keep them out of the conference championship is to be commended.
And incredible restraint by the BYU coach to not send in someone from the end of the bench to exact revenge.
Not exactly sporting play, but admit it, you’re curious to see what happens when these sides meet next season.

Shame on those who say women’s soccer is no good!
No red card for Lambert? What game was the ref watching?
Where is the NCAA? I think New Mexico # 15 should lose her scholarship for at least a year or the entire program be reprimanded. There is absolutely no excuse for that kind of poor sportsmanship in collegiate sport.
I have seen over a thousand high level girls/womens’ soccer matches… the brief clip included AT LEAST TWO red card offenses for this Lambert. The hair pulling was a cheap shot to rival Zidane.
NCAA? Where were the police?
This was awesome! Soccer ratings went up, for at least a week, in the US. lol
